What is this site (or this site looks just like...)?

Thanks for checking us out first of all. This site is being produced by a couple of social news fans who are also very much into politics.

We're trying to make a very focused place to find the most up-to-date and deepest coverage for political news.

TDP has a number of features we feel makes this site unique, and we plan on adding more (and fixing the numerous typos on this page). Please enjoy and feel free to let us know what you think by e-mailing us at tdp@thedailypolitical.com.

How do I vote on a story?

Click on the arrows next to each article to vote.

To vote on a story you have to sign up for a user name (it takes about two seconds). Once you have registered you will return to the normal TDP front page.

You'll see arrows next to each article pointing up () and down (). Clicking the 'up arrow' means you enjoy the article and think others should see it, clicking the down arrow means that story isn't worth reading.

Clicking on these arrows affects the 'point' value of the story. The stories with the highest point value. The most popular go into the page of the website.

Why do I care about points? How do I get more points?

The more points you have, the higher your stories will start in the top section, and therefore, the more influence you have over what other people are seeing and potentially reading.

Right now, the main way you get more points is by submitting stories that get voted up. If your story gets downvoted, then you'll lose points.

The colorful good and bad words under the stories...what do I do with those?

Use them to react/form an opinion about the content of the story. Under most stories you will see good and bad which you can click and vote on.

After you read the story, or the headline, click on good or bad to make a judgment about if the story is good or bad for the subject in the story.

At the end of the day, the total amounts of all good and bad votes are tabulated to determine their place in the buzz page.

What are tags on the link submission screen?

Tags are what are used in the "is this good or bad for..." question (i.e. they are the subject of the good and bad votes). Tags are for you to enter the name of whomever or whatever is effected by the story you are submitting.

If your story is about "President Bush, who lives in a White House" your subject tags might look like: president_bush white_house

Notice the use of an underscore (---> _) to connect words in the same tag and that the tags are separated by a space, not a comma.

When submitting a subject tag with multiple words it is important to include the underscore to connect the words otherwise the tag will not submit properly.

When I submit a link and a subject the subject does not appear right in the 'good/bad' voting

Make sure to include an underscore (---> _) between words to avoid this.
